EYE EXAMINATIONS & SPECTACLES

Ian Emslie Optometrist provides comprehensive eye examinations and eye health tests. We can also help you find the right product to fit your prescription, whether that be contact lenses or spectacles. Using thin lens technology, prescriptions can be made to suit a range of frames. Patients can select from a much wider range of stylish, comfortable spectacles.

As an independent optometry practice, we have access to an extensive variety of luxury, midrange and budget frame options. Our friendly staff can help you select from the many different styles available.

VISUAL FIELDS

Ian Emslie Optometrist provides comprehensive eye health examinations, with additional tests available. We conduct visual field tests, which assess the overall health of peripheral or 'side' vision. This test can detect blind spots or weak peripheral vision, which may be a symptom of optic nerve damage, eye disease or even brain disorders.

There are different methods of visual field checks, including automated periphery checks. Each test is useful for diagnosing the type of disorder or vision concern presented.

GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma increases the pressure in the eye, which can lead to optic nerve damage if left untreated. At Ian Emslie Optometrist, we perform routine checks to detect any change in the pressure of your eye. This test can help determine the intra-ocular pressure of your eye, indicating whether you are at risk of glaucoma.

It is important to conduct a test to detect the presence of glaucoma. Generally, warning signs are an indication there is already a problem. Early detection is important in order to set-up a management plan. If high-pressure is noted during your examination, Ian may recommend further testing. A referral to an ophthalmologist may also be required.

DIABETIC EYE HEALTH

Patients with diabetes are at higher risk of eye health concerns such as glaucoma, retinopathy or cataracts. At Ian Emslie Optometrist, we recommend eye examinations for diabetics on an annual basis. During the consultation, we will look for the presence of diabetic retinopathy, which can be associated with high blood sugar conditions.

For patients with diabetic eye health concerns, we can create a management plan and refer you for additional treatment where necessary.

MACULA DEGENERATION

As we age, we become more susceptible to age-related macula degeneration. It is one of the leading causes of vision problems and blindness in the world. Macula degeneration is a result of the retina thickening, reducing our ability to see detail.

At Ian Emslie Optometrist, we have a number of instruments available to assist in the detection of macula degeneration. Your optometrist will look for changes to the macula, such as a build-up of waste or an increase in blood vessels. As with many eye conditions, effective treatment of macula degeneration requires early detection. Ongoing eye health checks are also recommended.

DIGITAL RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHY

The use of digital retinal photography is important for assessing a range of eye diseases and conditions. At Ian Emslie Optometrist, retinal photography is also used to keep track of your eye health. The high resolution images allow for a comparison of the interior of the eye, so subtle changes can be detected.

Digital Retinal Photography is one of the best tools for detecting and managing conditions such as glaucoma, macula degeneration, retinal detachment and diabetic eye health. Your optometrist can assess the health of your eye and make recommendations based on the findings.

CONTACT LENS CONSULTATIONS

Advances in contact lens technology have made contacts more comfortable and easy to wear. At Ian Emslie Optometrist, we provide contact lens consultations to determine your suitability for wearing contacts. We have a wide selection of options, from daily disposal to extended wear lenses.

For first-time wearers, we will teach you how to insert and remove contact lenses correctly. You will also learn the correct after-care and hygiene for safe wearing. As an independent Lake Macquarie optometry clinic, we can source any variety of lens to ensure a comfortable fit.

CHILDREN'S VISION ASSESSMENTS

Regular eye tests are important to preserve the health of your child's eyes. Eye tests can also identify any problems with your child's vision, such as short or long-sightedness, as well as astigmatism (blurred vision). Vision problems may also be linked to poor classroom performance or behavioural problems.

At Ian Emslie Optometrist, we have plenty of experience working with children. We can provide testing for children of all ages, starting at just a few months of age. Regular eye examinations and discussions allow us to tailor an eye health care plan for your child. Should your child require glasses, we have a comprehensive range of styles available.

Ian Emslie Optometrist is dedicated to providing exceptional service and eye care. We are an independent, boutique optometry clinic in Warners Bay, supporting the local community's eye health needs. Ian, our practice optometrist, performs eye health examinations and vision assessments for all patients. Our support team can then assist you with selecting high-quality frames to suit your lifestyle and needs.
